Bio

 

pianist timothy ledger is known for his enthusiastic teaching style, engaging musical presence, thoughtful interpretations, and bright, colorful sound.

 

Tim is an active presence in the Ohio Music Teachers Association, where he serves as the Central-East district’s Vice President of Student Competitions and as the chair of the Graves Piano Competition, an event with a long history of showcasing young solo artists and duo teams from across the state of Ohio. He is on the executive board of the Columbus Music Teachers Association, as well, and is a member of Music Teachers National Association, which selected him as a recipient of the 2024 MarySue Harris Studio Fellowship Award. Tim also stays engaged as an adjudicator, guest teacher, and presenter. Recent highlights include the Pacific International Youth Music Festival in Vancouver, the 20th Century and Beyond Festival at Ohio University, Western Reserve Music Teachers Association, and masterclasses and guest artist residencies at Mount Union University and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

 

Tim has gratefully enjoyed performing across North America and in Europe. He was hailed as a “demon at the keyboard” for his performances of Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with Alexis Hauser and the McGill Symphony Orchestra, and his performances of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and the Shostakovich Piano Quintet were featured on CBC Classical. Tim is also an advocate for both new and historically underrepresented music. Recently, he premiered Timepiece—a commission with composer Phillip Sink—in a recital for Chamber Music Milwaukee.

A prolific chamber musician praised for his keen sense of ensemble, Tim has appeared with soloists and larger organizations alike, including Opéra de Montréal, the Musical Chairs International Chamber Music Festival, Orchestre classique de Montréal, the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal Chamber Music Series, and many others.

 

Tim holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, a Master of Music degree and Performer Diploma from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, where he was also a lecturer in the music theory department, and a Doctor of Music degree from McGill University’s Schulich School of Music. Tim has served as applied piano faculty at Marianopolis College and McGill University.

 

Tim currently resides with a formerly-feral tabby cat named Minerva in Columbus, Ohio, where he teaches people of all ages in Ledger Lines Piano Studio. His students have been featured on NPR’s From the Top, have won prizes in local, statewide, and national competitions, and are always helping Tim learn and stay adaptable.
